The Merck Sharpe & Dohme plant facility consists of production buildings, Clean Rooms, R&D, QC and Tech Services Laboratories, Offices & Administration areas, Warehousing and Tech Services buildings.

Wilson Architecture was commissioned to design the Quality Operations Laboratory, Technical Operations Laboratory and Clean Room Suites as part of the Ballydine Expansion Programme, Clonmel.

The Quality Operations Laboratory is a two storey building that houses 120m2 of support offices and 250m2 of Laboratories for the testing of products from their new production facility.

The design of the laboratory, a functional rationalisation dividing wet processing from dry processing operations, has a central access aisle which links the support offices, laboratories with the production space. This aisle emphasised by a full height rooflight allows natural light to flood the workspace below creating a comfortable and productive working environment.

We were also commissioned to design the Quality Operations, Technical Operations and Clean Room Suites at Merck Sharp & Dohme, Clonmel.

The Technical Operations Laboratory is a single storey construction housing 70m2 of support offices, 200m2 of laboratories with associated plant. The laboratory is split into two smaller self-contained modular work areas integrated write-up spaces.

Wilson Architecture also designed and detailed 700m2 of Clean Room Suites in the new Production Facility. The rooms, designed to Class 100,000 Clean Room Standards are arranged vertically to facilitate a gravity flow operation. The design of the rooms incorporates an integrated cleanability philosophy. A controlled HVAC environment is accessed through a system of air locks.
