Project details:
The Project involved an extension to, and a complete refurbishment of the existing Boole Library. The completed building forms the southern boundary of the original Victorian Quadrangle of UCC, the plan form being dictated by the requirement to retain some spectacular specimen trees on the site
The façade materials, comprising profiled copper cladding, glass, and red sandstone were selected to integrate the new building with its historic surroundings. Internal accommodation includes a special collections area, commons area, reading and group study rooms, and large, naturally lit reading rooms. The existing Boole Library was also full re-furbished and now mainly contains the book-stacks etc. The Project received a World Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture.
